Applications for Independent Study, Internships and Research

Below are links to electronic forms for students applying for an independent study, supervised research, or an internship. Students should work with a Sociology faculty member to complete each form.   • A maximum of 12 credits of independent study may be applied toward the degree.
  • A maximum of 12 credits in internship, field experience, and practicum courses combined may be applied toward the degree.
  • The total of independent study, practicum, internship and field experience may not exceed 20 credits combined.

Application for Independent Study (SOC 496)

Supervised individual readings and study in Sociology.


  • Click here for Independent Study Form When filling out the form with your instructor, remembered to include that you will be participating in SOC 496 and how many course credits (1-3). A student may earn a maximum of 6 credits for all enrollments in this course.
  • Recommended background is 9 credits in Sociology.
  • Required approval of department.
  • Offered Fall, Spring or Summer semester.

 

 

Application for Supervised Research (SOC 497)

Supervised individual research in Sociology.

  • Recommended background is 9 credits in Sociology.

Application for an Internship (SOC 498)

Practical experience with a public, private or non-profit organization.

  • This course can fulfill the requirement of the College of Social Science Experiential Learning credit. (minimum of 3 credits needed.)
