BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Jussaume’s scholarship falls within the theoretical scope of Development Sociology and Rural Sociology, with a particular emphasis on Sustainable Development and Human Well-Being.  His interest in these areas developed during his upbringing in Fall River, Massachusetts and during his experiences as a Peace Corps volunteer in Niger, West Africa from 1978 to 1980. He has extensive interdisciplinary training and field research experience, including in various international contexts.  He has conducted field research in China, Japan and France. His interest in, and use of, mixed-methods approaches began with his dissertation on agricultural development and part-time farming in Japan. He teaches research methods courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level. He has published approximately 50 peer reviewed journal articles and academic book chapters, as well numerous bulletins and popular manuscripts that were written during that portion of his career, from 1987 until 2011, when he had a Research/Teaching/Cooperative Extension appointment at Washington State University. He has served on more than 50 graduate degree committees.
