Riva Denny (PhD, 2018,) has accepted a new post-doctoral position at the University of Michigan! Starting in the Fall, She will begin her work with the School for Environment and Sustainability.

Screen Shot 2019-07-17 at 9.39.10 AM.pngPhD student Anna Wilcoxson’s article, “Dignity Strategies in a Neoliberal Workfare Kitchen Training Program,” was recently published in the Wiley Online Library. The article uses ethnographic research to better understand dynamics and expectations within welfare-to-work training programs.

Shikha Bista.jpgDr. Shikha Bista Earns Prestigious Postdoctoral Fellowship

Dr. Shikha Bista (2018 Sociology PhD) has been named a Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) funded postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) in Houston, TX.  She will join the MDACC Cancer Prevention Research Training Program (CPRTP) in fall 2019. During her two-year postdoctoral fellowship, she will work closely with prominent scholars, Dr. Surendra Shastri and Dr. Sanjay Shete, in the Department of Health Disparities Research.

PhD Student Kayleigh Ward Receives Prestigious Fulbright Grant

MSU Sociology Doctoral Student Kayleigh Ward has received a Fulbright Japan Grant to support completion of her dissertation fieldwork in Japan during the 2019-2020 academic year. She successfully defended her dissertation proposal on May 6th, and will spend much of this summer preparing for her funded fieldwork.

On March 18, the Sociological Forum published the work of Professor Soma Chaudhuri, along with colleagues Jennifer Cobbina, Victor Rios, and Michael Conteh. Their article is titled "I Will Be Out There Every Day Strong!" Protest Policing and Future Activism Among Ferguson and Baltimore Protesters.
