BIOGRAPHY

Alexander (he/they) is a doctoral student in the Sociology Department at Michigan State University. He holds his M.A. in Social Science from the University of Chicago with a certificate in Gender and Sexuality Studies, and a B.A. in Sociology from Rollins College (Winter Park, FL). In addition to their doctoral studies, they are completing the MSU Graduate Certificate in Community Engagement.

Alexander’s research and teaching interests include medical sociology, gender, trans studies and the sociology of emotion. His emerging work explores how trans communities produce and exchange medical knowledge amid healthcare uncertainty and medical gatekeeping. In their work, they strive to produce scholarship that amplifies community voices and contributes to liberatory knowledge-making within and beyond the academy.

Alexander is currently collecting data through the Trans & Nonbinary Medical Resource Use Survey. This survey explored how trans and nonbinary individuals exchange medical knowledge at the community level, with the ultimate goal of improving gender-affirming healthcare access by sharing what may be learned from communities. For more information about this survey, please contact Alex at the above email address.
