MSU Sociology welcomes PhD student Hannah Pierson

Hannah is a PhD student in the Department of Sociology at Michigan State University. She earned her B.S. in Sociology from Grand Valley State University. During her time at Grand Valley Hannah worked as a research assistant for Dr. Anna Hammersmith. They worked together on projects regarding martial dissolution, sociological implications regarding relationships based on sequencing of martial events, and how familial relationships can be affected by divorce. Hannah has also done work as a McNair Scholar where they conducted research on racial infant mortality disparities and healthcare inequality under the supervision of Dr. Anna Hammersmith. Hannah’s research interests are predominately in healthcare inequalities, specifically how race and gender inequalities can impact quality of care, likelihood of certain negative health determinants, and how mental and physical health can be tied to expose to discrimination.
