MSU Sociology's Dr. Linda Kalof and alum Dr. Cameron Whitley win Distinguished Article Award

Dr. Kalof, head of the Animal Studies program, and Dr. Whitley, assistant professor at Western Washington University, won the Distinguished Article award from the American Sociological Association Section on Animals and Society, along with photographer Tim Flach.

Their article "Using Animal Portraiture to Activate Emotional Affect" was published in 2020 and found that people who were exposed to animal portraits reported increased empathy and decreased positive and relaxed emotions.
