The Sociology Academic Advisor will be honored at the 2109 Promotion & Reappointment Reception with MSU President Samuel Stanley and Provost Teresa Sullivan on Thursday, Feb. 13.
As Advisor, Mr. Kania helps undergraduate students select and plan the courses needed for completing their academic program in the Sociology Major and Minor. He also will discuss options for Study Abroad, Study Away, Career Exploration and Internships. He also serves as the Instructor for the SOC 498 Internship course. In addition to his work in the Sociology Department, Mr. Kania serves as an Academic Advisor for students in the Center for Integrative Studies in Social Science. In 2003, Mr. Kania was awarded the Advising/Professional Mentoring Award from the College of Human Ecology, and was also part of a team of advisors selected for the Certificate of Merit from the National Academic Advising Association. In addition to his advising duties on campus, Mr. Kania recently served as an elected Board member for the Michigan Academic Advising Association.
In his free time, Mr. Kania works as a Certified Umpire for the United States Tennis Association, and enjoys coaching and playing the game, as well as spending time with his family.
