Immigration and Crime: Science Over Rhetoric

Thu, April 16, 2026 6:00 PM at S105 Kedzie Hall

As this year's Dae Chang visiting Scholar, Charis E. Kubrin is a nationally recognized scholar in criminology and sociology and a leading voice on race, justice, and criminal justice reform. She is the co‑recipient of the Stockholm Prize in Criminology, the field’s most prestigious international honor, recognizing her pathbreaking research on immigration and crime, criminal justice reform, and the use of rap lyrics as evidence in criminal courts. In her April 16 talk (6:00–8:00 p.m., Room S105; Kedzie Hall South), Prof. Kubrin will discuss her influential work on the immigration–crime nexus—research that has shaped public debate and policy discussions nationally, including a recent feature in the San Francisco Chronicle (<https://www.sfchronicle.com/california/article/immigration-crime-researcher-21951472.php>).
