On the Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh

MSU Sociology Assistant Professor Saleh Ahmed will present "On the Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh" hosted by the MSU Muslim Studies Program.

Abstract: When the world witnessed inhumane violence in 2017 as the Buddhist Bamar population and Myanmar Army’s (Tatmadaw) inhumanely pushed Rohingya out of Rakhine State, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights quickly described the situation as a “…textbook example of ethnic cleansing” (UN, 2017). This presentation will highlight the root causes and human consequences of this humanitarian crisis in South and Southeast Asia.
