Mr. Kania is the Undergraduate Academic Advisor for the Department of Sociology, and also works as an advisor in the Center for Integrative Studies in Social Science.  In addition to his advising duties on campus, Mr. Kania is serving as an elected Board member for the Michigan Academic Advising Association.

He attended college at Ohio University, in Athens, Ohio, for two years, then transferred to MSU, where he earned a B.A.  After working for a large corporation, he returned to MSU and earned an M.A. degree.  Prior to working for the Department of Sociology, Mr. Kania previously worked as an advisor in the Student Affairs Office in Social Science, the Department of Human Development and Family Studies, and the Department of Kinesiology.  In 2003, Mr. Kania was awarded the Advising/Professional Mentoring Award for the College of Human Ecology, and was also part of a team of advisors selected for the Certificate of Merit from the National Academic Advising Association.

In his free time, Mr. Kania works as a Certified Umpire for the United States Tennis Association, and enjoys coaching and playing the game, as well as spending time with his family.
