Yan Zhang


Yan Zhang is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Sociology at Michigan State University. She obtained her Master’s degree in Sociology at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2016. Her research areas include population health, family demography, aging, and life course, and sexuality & gender. Yan is particularly interested in quantitative research methods and has solid methodological training in both MSU and ICPSR. Her dissertation examines the association between parenthood related factors and the risk of dementia among older adults. She published her paper on sex lives, relationship quality, and mental health among older adults in the U.S. on the Journals of Gerontology: Series B in 2019. Yan is working closely with several faculties on projects about marriage-health linkage. As an international student from China, Yan is also interested in examining how social and cultural contexts related to individual's well-being in China.
