Luis M. Rivera-Ayala is a Ph.D. student at the Sociology Department. His research interests include migration, ethnic community development, and minorities. However, the Puerto Rican Diaspora and its’ effect on processes in the island through cultural and political exchanges is his main focus. Before attending graduate studies, he worked as Press Secretary on the General Student’s Council and as Student’s Representative on the Academic Senate at "Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras". Besides, he served as a Public Affairs volunteer at American Red Cross since Hurricane María’s disaster response until their response to the most recent earthquakes on the island. Rivera Ayala also enjoys music, making photographs, and writing poetry.
