Sandy Marquart-Pyatt

Dr. Marquart-Pyatt is a comparative sociologist, with substantive interests in environmental sociology, quantitative methodology, political sociology, and comparative social change. She joined Michigan State University (MSU) in 2009 and also holds appointments in the Environmental Science and Policy Program (ESPP) and AgBio Research. Her substantive research examines social change comparatively and cross-nationally, and includes both macro-comparative and micro-level work. Her research seeks to further our understanding of how and why macro-level and micro-level contexts shape the expression of environmental and political views and actions across nations and over time. Dr. Marquart-Pyatt examines these processes using quantitative methods such as structural equation modeling with latent variables (SEM) and multilevel modeling, two approaches with conceptual and empirical roots in sociology. Her substantive research program investigates environmental and political processes across gradients from the global to the individual in single countries as well as comparative context. In addition, her current research includes work on social-ecological systems, specifically building a multi-year, multi-state panel survey of farmers in the US Midwest.
