Zakia Salime specializes in women’s movements in North Africa and the Middle East.
In her scholarly work Salime develops a gender lens on global socioeconomic, cultural and political transformations, with a focus on North Africa. Her publications encompass the areas of women and political participation in Morocco, gender and globalization, transnational feminisms, religious movements, gender and race in international politics. Salime is currently working on a book project on the dialectics of women’s Islamist and feminist movements in contemporary Morocco. She is looking at these interactions in the context of economic and political changes as they have been shaped by neoliberal policies and discourses, as well as the global “war on terrorism.”
