Student nominated for Udall Foundation Scholarship

Alec Mania is a nominee for the Udall Foundation Scholarship, which awards up to $7,000 for educational expenses to 60 outstanding students in the United States. The foundation awards the scholarships to sophomores and juniors for leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to American Indian nations or to the environment.

Mania is from Rochester, Michigan and is a graduate of Stoney Creek High School. He is a research assistant for the African Atlantic Research Team (AART), MSU, a volunteer for the Lansing Refugee Development Center and director of media and design for Global Youth for Education and Change, MSU.

"Throughout the course of my life and career, I want to contribute to the building of an inclusive, equitable, and sustainable world based on an ethic of common humanity and environmental responsibility," Manaia said.
