The Teacher Scholar Award is awarded yearly to six members of Michigan State University’s Faculty who have earned the respect of students and colleagues due to their devotion to and skill in teaching, and for their scholarly promise.
Dr. Daniel Menchik, a professor jointly appointed in the Department of Sociology and the College of Lyman Briggs, was recently awarded the prestigious Teacher Scholar Award. Menchik currently studies the organization of health and medicine. In his classes, he often asks his students to read literature based on theoretical concepts in science and technology, while also involving his students in real-world applications. These real-world applications include exploring magazine advertisements for medical devices and medicines, and conducting ethnographic research at Sparrow Hospital. By pursuing original and fresh ways of teaching, both his students and colleagues alike praise him for his teaching endeavors.
Congratulations to Dr. Daniel Menchik on receiving the 2017 Teacher Scholar Award!
