Dr. Stephanie Nawyn's Research Featured in MSU Today

Dr. Stephanie Nawyn’s research on how race and gender shape the assimilation of African immigrants in the United States was featured in MSU Today’s 2017 Year in Review.

Nawyn, lead investigator of the research, found a large difference in earnings for black immigrant males from Africa compared to US-born white men.  There was not a large difference in earnings for black immigrant females from Africa compared to US-born white females.  Possible reasons could be because “black immigrant men may experience more stereotyping”.   With Africans having the fastest growth rate during 2000 to 2013 of major immigrant groups, this leaves much room for concern.
