Faculty
Lawrence Busch (Ph.D., Cornell University) directs the Institute for Food and Agricultural Standards and specializes in the sociology of food and agriculture. His current research involves (1) the role of private sector Third Party Certification of food and agricultural products in both industrial and developing nations, and (2) the growing role of agrifood nanotechnologies in transforming food and agriculture globally. Both projects are part of a series of studies of how grades and standards for food products are implicated in restructuring the social world including (re) distribution of income wealth, status, prestige and power. In addition, Dr. Busch maintains his longstanding interest in agricultural biotechnologies and the standards governing the use of these technologies.
