Khalida Zaki, Ph.D. is assistant professor, undergraduate program director and academic advisor. She specializes in social demography of South Asia, as well as Muslim immigrant communities in Michigan. Her areas of teaching involve Islam and gender, dynamics of population, national, and global diversity. Her research includes women's education and family planning in Pakistan;social-cultural barriers to healthcare utilization among Muslim immigrants; and, issues of Muslim youth, parents and schools in Michigan. She demonstrates excellence in enhancing global diversity through her teaching, advising, research, and professional activities. She has received numerous recognitions, for example, she was honored with the MSU All-University Excellence in Diversity Award in 2003. This prestigious award honors individuals who have demonstrated excellence in promoting diversity by performing activities above and beyond the call of normal duty.
She was the key planner and organizer of an international conference on "Islam and Gender: Social Change and Cultural Diversity in Muslim Communities", was held at MSU on March 17 - 18, 2006. The conference Website: http://www.soc.msu.edu/islam&genderconference/index.htm
