Biography:

I am a PhD student in Sociology, with specializations in Animal Studies and Global Urban Studies. I previously earned an MSc in Animals and Public Policy from Tufts University in 2014 and a BA in Psychology and German with a Zoology minor from Ohio Wesleyan University in 2012. My research interests focus mainly on cross-cultural perceptions of stray animals, with a secondary and more general interest in the need for better communication between academia, animal welfare groups, and the general public to further animal welfare initiatives. I’ve been building and developing these interests for over 7 years of working in the animal shelter field during and after college, and I still spend every minute possible working hands-on with animals, whether it’s with my slightly nutty rescue dog, fostering bottle-baby kittens, or most recently helping to rebuild the behavior and enrichment team at the Humane Society of Livingston County.

Research Areas: Animal studies, roaming dogs, cross-cultural studies, urban theory
