Anna Wilcoxson

Biography:

Anna Wilcoxson is a first year PhD student in the department of Sociology. Anna received her Master’s in Sociology from Loyola University in 2017. After receiving her bachelor's degree in Economics from Wheaton college, she worked as a chef and also spent time working at a community center and fitness facility. Her background in economics, and specifically responsible economic development, coupled with her interest in food has led Anna to her current interests of food, labor, and economic issues relating to race. Anna’s Master’s thesis is an ethnography that examines how students at a job training program (as part of the new welfare state) navigate their difficult roles as autonomous workers (cooks), but also closely surveilled as part of their social mandate. At MSU, Anna plans to focus her attention toward food and the environment and plans to do research on issues of food security.
