At the Honors/Awards Banquet, Lifetime Appreciation Awards went to four retiring faculty including Janet L. Bokemer, Thomas L. Conner, Stan Kaplowitz, and Harry Perstadt.
A guest list of approximately 50 people included most of the awardees and their guests.
Appreciation of Service Awards went to Drs. Maryhelen D'Ottavi MacInnes and David Wiley. Dr. Wiley served as interim chair for the department during the 2011-12 academic year. We also wanted to honor Maryhelen MacInnes for her six years of service to the department. Dr. MacInnes will be leaving the department at the end of this summer to move to Boston where her family resides.
MSU Student Life recognizes a Leader of the Year to a student who demonstrates leadership to the College of Social Science, the Department of Sociology, and the larger Michigan community in extraordinary ways. A certificate of recognition was given to undergraduate senior Corey Austin for his diverse service to the community at large.
The Dr. Martin Luther King Endowed Scholarship Award is given annually to students whom, "through their stewardship, become society's leaders by actively engaging in their communites in ways that fight injustice and promote equality for all on every possible level." Congratulations to Violeta Donawa and Cameron Khalfani Herman for this auspicous award.
John Schwarz, our Information Technology Professional, received the Sociology Staff Excellence Award.
