Gender and Family
Faculty and students in the Gender and Family program study gender and families from a variety of theoretical perspectives and scales of social interaction (such as global, regional, local, and interpersonal). They employ both qualitative and quantitative methods to examine various issues: how family roles are shaped by economic and institutional forces; how gender relations are changing as a result of global economic and political shifts; and how gender relations structure the social institutions that have precipitated these shifts. The Gender and Family faculty has expertise in family demography, health and aging, race and racial discrimination, work and labor market participation, migration, violence, social movements, children and adolescents, and intersectionality and social inequality.
